ONE WILD CHALLENGE 5: GRAND TETON! – JULY 30 – AUGUST 4
One Wild Challenge is an opportunity for strong spirited, adventuresome Tulsans to make a positive impact on their Tulsa Zoo while challenging themselves to reach greater heights. By accepting an aggressive fundraising goal and elite physical challenge, your participation will make a difference in the lives of all families in Green Country, not to mention our Nature Exchange program.

Tulsa Zoo's One Wild Challenge is a six-day fundraising challenge including two days of travel, Two days of technical rock climbing training and two full days on the actual summit attempt of “The Grand.”

The Grand Teton (13,770 feet) is America's most famous mountain and one of the world's classic climbs. It offers limitless mountaineering possibilities to both aspiring and experienced mountaineers. Distance is 11 miles one way, 8 of which is on a trail (sometimes quite steep). Vertical gain is 5,000 feet to the Lower Saddle and another 2,100 feet to the summit: 7,100 feet total.
Of course, you don’t need to be a mountaineer to join us! The elite guides of Exum Mountain Guides will train and guide our group from the base camp to the summit… and back!

One Wild Challenge is a fundraising event supporting Tulsa Zoo Friends, Inc. Each climber is required to raise a minimum of $5,000 to qualify for a summit attempt of Grand Teton. These funds will help build a better zoo. More specifically, your sponsorships will support the zoo's Nature Exchange program.

TEAM MEMBER REQUIREMENTS
1. Accept the Challenge and Register.
All participants are required to register with a $500 non-refundable fee. Team slots are limited and only reserved through registration.
Please click on this link to register and pay your deposit.

2. Get Sponsors!
Work with friends, family and co-workers to promote your challenge and secure your $5,000 in minimum sponsorships before the July 1, 2010 deadline. A series of sample letters and fundraising advice is available on this website. Secure your minimum requirements early, set a realistic goal in advance and go for it!

3. Train.
Start on a good foot and seek your physician's approval and the advice of a physical trainer/fitness expert before taking on a serious training program. A sound fitness program addresses cardiovascular fitness (fitness of the heart) and motor fitness (particularly strength, endurance and balance). It is important to understand what your goals are so that you may maximize your training. This is especially important given the time constraints placed on a mountaineer by weather, route conditions, objective hazards, and the effects of altitude. Proper physical conditioning will allow you to perform better by climbing longer, stronger and faster, be more comfortable on steeper and awkward terrain, carry heavier loads, recover quicker at rest, and enjoy the entire adventure more completely. More complete training guidelines are included in your materials.

4. Finish the Challenge and CLIMB!
Our travel and climbing dates are scheduled for late July and early August, so you have plenty of time to train and fundraise. All travel and accommodations will be provided so just focus on your training and fundraising we'll take care of the rest.

A Challenge to Remember
